Committees

College committees provide policy advice to the Council and help guide the operation of College programs and services. Committees are comprised of Council members, as well as physician and/or public representatives with specific expertise.

Description of current College Committees

Complaint Appeals

Hears appeals from complainants who may be dissatisfied with the outcome of the complaints process. The committee can uphold the original decision, overturn it, refer it to a complaints hearing, or refer it to the Complaints Committee.
Executive

Responsible for setting Council agenda, and for directing the business of College Council between Council meetings based on provincial legislation and College bylaws. This committee also reviews the performance of the College Registrar.
Finance & Audit

Deals with finance issues related to governance of the College such as the annual budget, investment portfolio and pension statements.
Infection Prevention and Control

Advises College Council regarding infection prevention and control issues in physician's offices.
Medical Facility Accreditation

Advises College Council on the appropriate standards for accredited medical facilities, and coordinates the accreditation of facilities.
Medical Informatics

Provides advice to the profession on the responsible use of Information Management/Information Technology (IM/IT) in medical practice. See EMRs and Physicians.
Nominating

Nominates Certificate of Merit recipients, and recommends individuals for membership on College council committees.
Physician Health Monitoring

Provides direction to College Council on the management of physicians who suffer from health conditions that could impact their ability to practise.
Physician Performance

Responsible for overseeing the College's Physician Achievement Review (PAR) program.
PPC Appeal

Deals with physician appeals resulting from the PAR program.
Recruiting Committee

Identifies and recruits physicians to provide appropriate balance on College council. (Note - a Search & Selection committee is established for public member vacancies.)
Research Ethics

Reviews research ethics proposals from physicians not associated with one of Alberta's universities who wish to pursue research involving human subjects.
TPP Steering Committee

Multi-stakeholder committee that provides advice in the operation of the Triplicate Prescription Program.
TPP Standing Committee

Focuses on physician prescribing issues and advises College Council on the Triplicate program.
