Consultation
| The College conducts consultations to ensure it is fulfilling its mandate under the Health Professions Act (HPA). College Council values the feedback from consultations as it assists Council in striking the appropriate balance between serving patient needs and setting reasonable expectations for physician practice. Information collected during the consultation period is considered by Council prior to approving new or revised publications. | |

Formal consultation is required under the
HPA for:
- the Code of Ethics,
- Standards of Practice and
- Physician Achievement Review (PAR) Program Rules.
Council may also ask for feedback on other topics of interest.
Consultation Periods
Formal consultations are generally run during the following time periods:
Spring Consultation: March 15 to May 15
Fall Consultation: September 15 to November 15
Invitations to Respond
Council is required to consult with its regulated members and with the Minister of Health and Wellness.
In addition, Council often requests feedback from organizations such as:
- the medical faculties at the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary,
- Alberta Health Services,
- Alberta Medical Association,
- other Alberta regulated health professions,
- Canadian Medical Regulatory Authorities in other provinces and territories,
- Canadian Medical Protective Association and
- other organizations as appropriate to the topic under review.
