College Chaperone Training Course
A medical examination involving the breasts, genitalia or rectum is often distressing for the patient involved. One way to alleviate some of this discomfort is to have a chaperone present. Benefits of a chaperone include emotional comfort and reassurance to the patient as well as assistance for the examining physician.
The College promotes the presence of a chaperone during intimate examinations and is once again offering a chaperone training course for staff working in physician offices. To facilitate learning and promote dialogue, this interactive one-day training course uses video examples and is limited to a small working group of 12 participants. The course is designed to help participants:
-
Understand their roles and responsibilities as a chaperone;
-
Learn about what constitutes a proper and improper intimate examination; and
-
Understand the rights of the patient.
